You've chosen a theme for your wedding, and you've thought about using it for every part of the celebration. From the car that will take you to the town hall, to the style of your dress, to the caterer's buffet and the decor, everything is in tune and a little offbeat. And what if you also adapted your ceremony to fit in perfectly with the spirit you've chosen and that suits you? Download our free guide to help you design your symbolic ceremony. An Offbeat Wedding Right to the End You can personalise your wedding down to the smallest detail, according to your tastes and desires, and follow trends or stray from them to create a truly atypical and original day. You've already thought about how to incorporate the spirit you've chosen into every detail of your wedding... or almost! If you're short of ideas for creating a ceremony unlike any other, think carefully about all the little elements that might recall your theme, without turning it into a heap of little bits and pieces put together just "to keep with the theme". To begin with, make sure that the furniture and accessories used during the ceremony are really in keeping with the rest, including the surroundings and the celebrant's outfit (which can sometimes be tricky, of course, but I personally do love these kinds of challenges!) - Who Should Officiate Your Wedding Ceremony: Loved One, Professional… or AI?
Discover the differences between a friend, a professional officiant, or even AI for your symbolic wedding ceremony. Make the right choice for a heartfelt, seamless and truly personal celebration. Finding the Right Voice for Your Wedding Ceremony: Loved One, Professional… or even AI? Pictures: Ellie Girard Your symbolic ceremony is a meaningful moment, filled with emotion and beauty. It marks your commitment in a personal, sincere, and free way. But one crucial question always arises: Who will officiate this ceremony? A loved one? A professional celebrant? Or even generative AI? This choice will have a direct impact on the tone, rhythm, quality… and above all, the emotional intensity of your ceremony. Here is a complete guide to help you make an informed decision. What is a ceremony officiant? The wedding ceremony officiant is the person who brings your commitment to life. Their role goes far beyond simply speaking on the day: ✦ They collect your story, ✦ Structure and write the complete flow, ✦ Guide you step by step , ✦ Coordinate any contributions, ✦ Manage emotions, surprises, and key moments. A setting ready to welcome the couple’s story: the ceremony begins long before the first words are spoken. The setting is ready to welcome the couple’s story: a ceremony begins long before the first words are spoken. Key Information - Officiant: Friend or Pro? ✦ A meaningful decision: friend, professional, or AI… your choice sets the tone and emotional flow of your ceremony. ✦ A friend brings intimacy: heartfelt words and personal connection — but it’s a demanding role requiring writing, structure, and emotional control. ✦ A professional brings calm: with experience, structure, and emotional precision for a smooth and customized ceremony. ✦ A coherent story: a pro ensures flow and balance between vows, readings, rituals, and personal speeches. ✦ AI can inspire, but not replace: it lacks human depth, accuracy, and emotional understanding. When a loved one speaks, emotion is present… but so is responsibility. Choosing a loved one: an intimate, authentic… and more economical option Entrusting this role to a loved one often feels natural. It’s a decision guided by affection and the desire for a very intimate ceremony. Advantages: ✦ Words filled with emotion and shared memories, ✦ A strong bond with the couple, ✦ A familiar, reassuring presence. But be mindful of the realities: While cost-saving is appealing, it’s also a demanding task, often underestimated. A loved one must write, structure, speak in public, manage transitions and surprises… often without training. They may also have a very different idea of the ceremony than the couple, which they might impose without meaning to. And the stress of the day can be overwhelming for the person bearing this responsibility. Why hire a professional officiant? A professional officiant guarantees you: ✦ A structured, soothing, bespoke support, ✦ A smooth, coherent, emotionally balanced ceremony, ✦ A reliable presence on the wedding day, ✦ A discreet mediator, attentive to family sensitivities, ✦ Creativity fueled by experience , ✦ A celebration delivered with accuracy and emotion. A secular celebrant is also able to design a ceremony that reflects you, with the right tone, rhythm, words, and symbolic rituals. The expertise of a professional celebrant: creating a ceremony that is smooth, structured, and full of meaning. The expertise of a professional officiant: creating a ceremony that is smooth, structured, and full of meaning. My personalized guidance: balance between structure and freedom In my practice, I’ve chosen to offer a structured yet flexible process. Each couple receives a private online space to follow the preparation alongside our meetings, centralize ideas, and keep in touch. I also offer personalized vow-writing workshops , to help couples find the right words for a heartfelt, balanced ceremony. And I make sure to keep a subtle balance between surprise and reassurance: sharing enough to comfort, while preserving the magic of discovery. And if loved ones want to take part? The officiant’s role In a secular ceremony, it’s common for loved ones to want to speak, share a reading, recall memories, or give a personal message. Contrary to popular belief, the officiant’s role isn’t simply to “let everyone speak,” but to create a coherent, respectful ceremony that reflects the couple’s wishes. Spotlight on bilingual ceremonies ✦ More than just a translation A bilingual ceremony is not simply about “translating” each passage. It’s a balancing act that only an experienced bilingual celebrant can truly master. It’s not about giving a speech in French, then repeating it in English. Nor about overloading guests with a double version of every sentence. Nor handing out printed translations of speeches. A true bilingual ceremony is written from the start to alternate seamlessly between both languages with fluidity, emotion, and meaning. This means: ✦ Integrating cultural elements with finesse, ✦ Avoiding redundancies that bore bilingual guests, ✦ Maintaining rhythm, emotion, and understanding for all. Every word, passage, and symbolic ritual is designed so each language has its place, every guest feels included, and the whole remains lively, coherent, and authentic. An intimate moment: every word spoken becomes a shared memory. My role: channel, frame, harmonize When preparing a ceremony, I talk with loved ones about what they’d like to say, their connection to the couple, and the emotions they wish to express. But I don’t just compile texts. I provide detailed feedback on each contribution: ✦ I filter awkward or inappropriate remarks (yes, some dare to say “I wouldn’t have chosen her for you” or refer to an ex), ✦ I adjust the style if needed, ✦ I ensure every word finds its rightful place in the ceremony. Finally, I weave everything together—contributions, vows, rituals —into a harmonious, smooth narrative that honors the couple’s story. A moment of connection: every word spoken becomes a shared memory. Coaching a loved one: an in-between solution… with limits Some celebrants offer to guide a loved one (parent, friend, sibling, witness, uncle, aunt…) in creating the ceremony. Depending on the package, the professional may write part or all of the text, while leaving more or less freedom to the person officiating. This requires someone truly reliable, committed, and able to respect the framework. I used to offer this option, but certain experiences showed me its limits: last-minute improvisations, drifting off the script, imbalance in the flow… That’s why I’ve chosen not to guide without celebrating anymore. When I prepare a ceremony, it’s to fully embody and deliver it myself. Symbolic rituals, guided by the officiant, give depth and strength to the couple’s commitment. Artificial Intelligence: an ally… or a false friend? AI can help with structure and writing… but it can also invent texts, fake quotes, and miss the context. A real example: a text attributed to a famous author… never written by them! During a ceremony preparation, a loved one submitted a beautiful text, supposedly by a well-known classic author—perfectly fitting for the occasion. The tone felt right, the emotion was there—or so it seemed. But something felt off: the style didn’t match, and I couldn’t trace the quote. Giving the floor to loved ones: a moving moment, harmonized to preserve the flow of the ceremony. After some research, it turned out the text had been generated by AI and wrongly presented as authentic by an automated site. The loved one meant well, but the groom was a literature professor… Imagine: a fake quote attributed to an author he’d been teaching for 20 years! Thankfully, I caught the error in time, verified the source, and offered a genuine alternative in the same spirit. This story shows that AI can be tempting, but it will never replace human intelligence, rigor, or contextual sensitivity. A useful parallel: DJ, caterer, photographer, florist… and officiant In wedding planning, many couples involve loved ones to cut costs or include their circle. You can entrust music to a friend who loves playlists , ask witnesses to handle the buffet, or a cousin passionate about photography to capture the day. Sometimes it works. But often, it brings added stress, unpredictability, and uneven results. That’s why most couples prefer professional vendors, ensuring quality, serenity, and flow. Writing vows, preparing each detail: the officiant’s support continues right up to the wedding day. The ceremony officiant is no exception. It’s a role in its own right, requiring listening, experience, presence of mind, rhythm, and the right words. A good officiant carries the ceremony, weaving together intentions, emotions, silences, memories, and contributions. Like music, the meal, or the photos, it’s a unique, unrepeatable moment. It deserves the attention of someone who can truly honor it. Conclusion: choose with clarity and confidence, according to your priorities At the heart of the ceremony: a love story celebrated with authenticity and emotion. There’s no universally right or wrong choice — what truly matters is understanding what each option involves: in terms of preparation , organization, emotional load, and how things will unfold on the big day. A loved one can bring a deeply personal touch, full of shared memories, authenticity, and heartfelt emotion. As long as they’re well prepared, supported, and able to carry this role while respecting the vision you’ve imagined. A professional celebrant , on the other hand, offers a steady presence, an outside perspective, attentive listening, and complete mastery of the ceremony’s flow. They ensure everything runs smoothly, sincerely, and in a way that reflects who you are — with discretion, warmth, and a sense of detail. Ultimately, what matters most is choosing someone you trust — someone who will carry your story with care, authenticity, and the respect it deserves. In France, only civil marriages performed at the town hall are legally recognized. For non-resident couples, the process can be complex (residency requirements, administrative documents, connection to a local municipality). This is why many international couples choose to legally marry in their country of residence, and then celebrate a symbolic, personalised ceremony in France. Where can you organise a destination wedding in France? France offers an incredible variety of settings: • elegant châteaux in Bordeaux or the Loire Valley • sunlit villas in Provence • seaside venues on the French Riviera • countryside estates in Burgundy • wild landscapes in Brittany or Normandy • iconic locations in and around Paris Each region offers a unique atmosphere — the key is to choose a place that reflects your vision. What budget should be planned for a secular ceremony at a destination wedding? The budget depends on the level of personalization and support desired. My services start from €1200, with a completely bespoke creation. Can a symbolic ceremony in France be bilingual? Oui, et c’est même très fréquent dans un destination wedding. Yes, absolutely.Ceremonies can be conducted in two or even three languages (French, English, German), so that every guest can fully understand and feel included. Each moment is carefully crafted to create bridges between cultures, while keeping the ceremony fluid and meaningful. How can we find English-speaking wedding vendors in France? Many wedding professionals in France are used to working with international couples. You can find English-speaking vendors by: • browsing international wedding directories • checking if their website is available in English • reviewing their Instagram content and captions • reading testimonials from international couples • working with a wedding planner who can recommend trusted vendors As an international celebrant, I can also guide you toward experienced, English-speaking professionals. Do you work with local wedding vendors? Yes. A destination wedding relies on a team of experienced local vendors:wedding planners, designers, florists, musicians, photographers, videographers… I work closely with them to ensure a smooth, coherent and perfectly orchestrated ceremony. How do we prepare the ceremony from abroad? Most of the preparation is done remotely via video calls and questionnaires. This allows us to: • adapt to different time zones • build a strong connection over time • create a ceremony that truly reflects you Whenever possible, we may also meet in person before the wedding — a special moment that deepens the experience. How long does a symbolic ceremony last? A symbolic ceremony typically lasts between 30 and 60 minutes. The duration depends on your wishes: • a short and essential ceremony • or a more elaborate and personalised experience with readings, rituals and speeches Everything is adapted to your rhythm. Can we include traditions or rituals in the ceremony? Yes — and it’s often what makes a destination wedding so unique. You can incorporate: • cultural or family traditions • symbolic rituals • personal gestures or meaningful moments Each element is thoughtfully integrated to reflect your story and values. Do you officiate ceremonies all over France? Yes, I travel across France and Europe to officiate destination weddings. Lu dans le journal SudOuest le 15 octobre 2017 : "Elle célèbre laïquement les histoires d'amour" Ceremony and secular wedding officiant Céline Larigaldie expresses love stories in words. Photo NP Sud Ouest, October 15, 2017 "She celebrates love stories in a secular way." Céline Larigaldie is the very first officiant in the department. A vocation that came to her late in life, after an eclectic career. "Magnifying an important moment in a couple's life." This is how Céline Larigaldie describes her new role. Since July, she has been a secular ceremony officiant. She is the very first in Lot-et-Garonne to be registered on the official register of wedding and secular ceremony officiants. "At first, I replaced a friend at short notice for a Franco-German wedding at the Château d'Auros, near Bordeaux." Having worked as a public writer for several years, Céline Larigaldie has more than one string to her bow. Holding a master's degree, she is also fluent in English and German, having lived in Berlin for ten years. "It's very gratifying." Now living in Lannes with her family, Céline Larigaldie is interested in a thousand things, including theater, which she has been practicing as an amateur since the age of 15. "When I was offered the delicate mission of celebrating a secular wedding, I didn't know if I had all the skills for it." Faced with the very positive and enthusiastic feedback from the bride and groom and their entourage, Céline Larigaldie was convinced: "I want to continue celebrating this style of ceremony". A real preparation work is done before the big day: "I discuss a lot with the couple and determine with them what style and what framework they want to give to the ceremony." Many criteria are taken into account. The duration of the wedding, the speakers, the extracts of texts, poems or quotes, the music, the possible staging from the bride and groom but also from the witnesses, friends, family members... - English Speaking Celebrant in France | Céline Larigaldie
Céline Larigaldie officiates bilingual weddings in German and English throughout France and Europe. Based in Lot-et-Garonne, she is located between Bordeaux and Toulouse. Your Wedding Officiant: The Art of Telling Your Story Public Writer & Wedding Celebrant: a Words & Love Story Love stories have always touched me deeply. As a young girl, I turned dozens of them into poems, but today I prefer to express myself in prose. For over a decade, I’ve enjoyed elevating these beautiful stories when loving words enter my world as a public writer and a wedding officiant. My path to this profession was far from straightforward. Yet it is precisely the sum of all these experiences that now allows me to bring out the beauty in love stories and give meaningful depth to life’s most important moments. Key Information - Your Officiant ✦ As a secular wedding celebrant, I’ve had the joy of creating unique, heartfelt and personalised ceremonies for nearly a decade. ✦ I officiate in French, English or German, for multicultural couples or destination weddings. ✦ I'm also a professional writer. I craft vows and speeches with sensitivity, precision and emotion. ✦ Each ceremony is tailor-made, based on your story, your values and your vision. ✦ Based in South-West France, I travel across France and Europe to celebrate love in all its forms. A Passion for Words in the Service of Your Secular Ceremony I love listening to couples as they recount their meeting, the spark that ignited their love, the journey they’ve shared, their mutual dreams, and the strength of their bond. What they tell me, I transform into words that reflect their essence, crafting with them a text that truly represents their story. This ease with writing is what opened the door to my work as a wedding officiant . Creating a personalised wedding ceremony requires many talents, and among them, a gift for writing – to enchant the audience and narrate the story of the couple who entrust me with their most precious moment on their wedding day: the creation of their ceremony. I love finding the perfect words to express the emotions conveyed, the memories evoked, and the feelings shared. I am your ally, turning a mountain of ideas into a seamless and memorable event – and I promise not to shed more tears than your guests! My Journey to Becoming a Celebrant When I received an unexpected call from a man who introduced himself as a wedding planner – a concept I didn’t even know existed in France at the time – seeking a bilingual master of ceremony for a French-German wedding, I initially laughed. “That’s flattering, but I don’t do that,” I told him. Yet the story of that French-German couple and their confidence in me won me over. This first wedding was an incredible adventure, and on the day of the ceremony, I knew I had found my place. If you’d like to know all the details – including how I improvised my way into this career with grace – I invite you to read my full story here . At the end of the ceremony, guests approached me with congratulations, asking for the name of my profession. Together, we tried to find the right word: Celebrant? Ceremony Master? I had no idea! But one thing was clear: if this profession truly existed, I had found my dream job. A job where I get to write, speak foreign languages, address an audience – a bit like I used to do in theater – meet happy people who tell me about their love, listen to them to grasp the essence of their relationship, and tell their story… At 44 years old, after being a teacher, writer, translator, and trainer, I had finally discovered my calling. Ten years in Berlin have left a lasting impression on my life. I’ve been living in France again for twenty years, but my connection to German culture and language remains strong. It was in Germany that I also learned English, and since then, I’ve taken several trips that have deepened my love for the language and the cultures associated with it: Canada and the USA, England, Ireland, and Scotland. New Zealand and Australia remain a sweet dream for now. A Ceremony Full of Sincerity and Authenticity If I were to describe the qualities that open doors for me in this wonderful profession as a wedding officiant, I would say empathy, listening, flexibility, kindness, and creativity. I enjoy speaking in public and do so with ease – an essential skill when standing before a wedding assembly! Over the years, I’ve also realized that my voice is a remarkable asset. People often describe it as soft and soothing. I play with its modulation to add energy to my ceremonies, but what I love most is transporting the audience into my universe of calm and serenity during an hour-long celebration of love. I deeply believe that love comes in infinite forms and always deserves to be celebrated with authenticity. My role is to accompany all couples, without distinction, and offer them a ceremony that fully reflects their values and their story. Whether you are an LGBTQ+ couple, from different cultures, or united by a shared passion, I ensure that your ceremony honors your uniqueness and includes everyone present. Multilingual and International Ceremonies I have always been a words lover, and discovering new languages has only amplified this joy. Today, I am fluent in French, English, and German, and I take great pleasure in alternating languages when creating a bilingual or trilingual wedding ceremony. I also speak a little Italian and Spanish, enough to celebrate a French-Italian or French-Spanish wedding. For Portuguese, Ukrainian, Arabic, or Chinese, I work with a translator or native speaker to harmoniously integrate these languages into a multicultural ceremony . Celebrating love also means ensuring that every guest feels included and moved, regardless of their language or origin. My language skills allow me to make every ceremony fluid and accessible, alternating languages gracefully to create a warm atmosphere and offer a rare and memorable moment. Whether it’s for an international wedding, a destination wedding, or a celebration where multiple cultures meet, I strive to ensure that every word resonates in the hearts of those present. My goal? To create a celebration where everyone feels at home, in a moment where love transcends borders and languages. Your Love Story, Your Ceremony – Book a Free Call in One Click! A Personalized Approach at Every Step To create a ceremony tailored to each couple, I have developed a bespoke process, designed with care and sensitivity. Sometimes we start with a blank slate, while other times there is already a clear vision of what will happen on the big day. I build on your ideas and preferences, suggest alternatives that align with your sensibilities, and help guide you toward final decisions. Occasionally, one partner may have different ideas or feel hesitant compared to the other. In these cases, we work together in a constructive dialogue to find a shared vision that reflects the needs and desires of both partners . Throughout the preparation, I take the time to get to know your story and understand your personalities. This happens through in-depth conversations (via video call if needed) and your responses to my carefully crafted questionnaires. These are designed to help you reflect on your relationship, your love, and your vision of commitment. I assist you in choosing rituals that symbolize what you want to convey and provide advice on the structure of the ceremony – always respecting your wishes and without judgment. I also support the friends or family members you wish to involve, ensuring their contributions are smoothly and harmoniously integrated into the overall ceremony. When the big day arrives, I coordinate all the service providers and participants to offer you a ceremony as perfect as your dreams! From My Region to the Rest of the World: Celebrating Love Everywhere In the heart of Lot-et-Garonne, between Bordeaux and Toulouse, I find my inspiration. This region, with its rolling hills, enchanting castles, and unique way of life, is the ideal setting for weddings filled with poetry and authenticity. But my love for travel and meeting new people goes beyond the borders of this beautiful region. I travel throughout France – from Provence to Brittany, including Paris and the Basque Country – and even to a secluded woodland somewhere in Europe … as long as my GPS has Wi-Fi! Wherever you dream of tying the knot, I am here to bring your intimate or grand ceremony to life in French, English, German, or a combination of languages. Every love story is unique, and my role is to celebrate and highlight it in all its beauty – whether at a Gascon castle or on a magical beach. Your ceremony will reflect your wishes, your dreams, and the place where your hearts come together. Whether it’s an international wedding , a destination wedding , a celebration that unites different traditions or a non-religious ceremony, I ensure every word resonates with your guests. And you? Your ceremony should reflect your wishes: the venue, symbols and rituals, texts, and all the little details that make your wedding truly unique and memorable. A non-religious wedding ceremony A Symbolic Wedding Ceremony That Reflects Your Personality You're in the middle of preparing for your wedding: caterer, dress, wedding rings, reception hall, even the hairdresser has already been chosen! Now it's time to think about the ceremony itself: for whatever reason, your wedding won't have a religious dimension. And yet you would like to celebrate your love with more solemnity and emotion than the few minutes of a civil wedding at the town hall. You would love to be able to write a ceremony in words that speak for you, in your dream location, with rituals and symbols that appeal to you, that correspond to you, that mean something to you. A "secular" wedding ceremony is made for you! Whether you choose a professional officiant (call them a celebrant or ceremonialist, it's more original!), or one of your loved ones to celebrate your romance, this text has been written for you. Key Information - Symbolic Ceremony ✦ A non-religious ceremony to give meaning to your union: Celebrate your commitment with emotion, freedom, and authenticity. ✦ A personalised celebration: Words, music, symbols, rituals… choose each element to create a moment that reflects who you are. ✦ Open to all love stories: Mixed couples, LGBTQ+ couples, with or without children — the ceremony adapts to your journey. ✦ Total freedom in form and tone: classic or unique venue, solemn or fun mood, simple or symbolic style… anything is possible. ✦ A multilingual ceremony if you wish: French, English, German – or all three – for an inclusive and seamless experience. Photo Barbara Lusynska Who Are Symbolic Ceremonies Made For? For anyone! Indeed, everyone will find a good reason to go that little bit further than the minimum required at the town hall, without having to choose a religious ceremony. Humanist ceremonies cannot be held in France, since you have to fulfill the legal requirement at the "Mairie" for your marriage to be acknowledged. Yet you're madly in love with each other, but you don't share the same religion? Are neither of you religious? You were married in a church in a previous life, and for this new life you want a beautiful celebration, despite the impossibility of a church mass? Is it a late wedding? In the presence of your children? Are you a gay or lesbian couple ? Or are you simply dreaming of a tailor-made ceremony, because you want to get married in a different way? Whether you're an eco-fan, a Games of Thrones fan, or very traditional at heart, whether you want a 'nature' wedding, or one that's linked to the stars, a retro, medieval or rustic wedding, or even a luxury wedding: a secular ceremony can be adapted to suit all your desires, because you're the one who chooses the content and creates it so that it reflects you and your true love. Imagine Your Ceremony A Non-Religious Ceremony Designed to Reflect Your Identity First of all, the venue: you can choose to celebrate your union outdoors, whether in your garden, in the rose garden of a château, in a forest clearing, in a park, on a beach or in a meadow: depending on the theme of your wedding or the touch you want to give it, choose your dream venue! If you opt for an indoor venue, there's no limit to what you can do. A cabaret or a jazz club, an opera house or a museum, restored stables, an old mill, the ruins of an old chapel... Any beautiful venue can host the celebration, and the spirit of the place will certainly have an impact on the atmosphere of your ceremony. The decorations you choose will give the venue a romantic feel: baskets of flowers, a few ribbons, a flower arch, all depending on your colours and tastes. You can personalise the entire ceremony so that it reflects who you are, and so that this unique moment is one of 'togetherness' with your loved ones. I use the word 'togetherness' here without any religious connotations, but simply a note of spirituality that will be the one you choose, with symbols that correspond to you and rituals that make sense to you. You can give it the tone you want, perhaps alternating more solemn moments with others marked by humour, emotion or tenderness. There is no code, no rules for the creation of your wedding ceremony, so you can invent it in your own style, to go outside the box or stick to it as you please. The only limit is your imagination! So, Are You Also Considering a Symbolic Wedding Ceremony?! So if you're looking for more than just a civil ceremony at the town hall (which is a legal requirement for your marriage to be recognised by the law), if you're dreaming of a unique moment that will make this day "the happiest day of your life", don't hesitate, embark on the adventure of what the French call a "secular" ceremony! Your wedding will be all the more romantic! Download our free guide to help you design your symbolic ceremony. - A Personalized Ceremony Booklet for a Meaningful Wedding
Need help writing your wedding vows? Discover simple methods, practical advice, and inspiring examples to find the perfect words for your big day. The Ceremony Booklet: A poetic thread woven through your wedding A personalized non-religious ceremony booklet Since I began working as a celebrant, I’ve always enjoyed holding a beautiful object in my hands during the ceremony. For a long time, I used Paperblanks journals — refined, poetic, and perfectly suited to the emotional nature of the moment. But over time, I wanted to go further: to create something truly unique for each couple. Today, every celebration begins with a custom-made ceremony booklet, more than just a beautiful notebook. It is entirely handmade by a discreet yet talented artisan. Together, we design a tailor-made cover, inspired by the wedding theme, the invitation colors, the chosen typography, or simply the essence of the couple as I describe it. A true wedding keepsake or ceremony book, it becomes a precious vessel for the words spoken that day. Picture by Ellie Gillard Each ceremony begins with the right words… carefully printed and gathered in a unique booklet. Key Information - The Ceremony Book ✦ A one-of-a-kind piece: each booklet is custom-made to reflect the couple’s world — colors, textures, and design details included. ✦ A living companion to the ceremony : it holds the full script — vows, readings, rituals — and follows the flow of the moment. ✦ An emotional keepsake: gifted after the celebration, it becomes a book of memories and love. ✦ An ethical, handcrafted choice: no screens, no plastic — just paper, craftsmanship, and presence. ✦ Included with every service : because every ceremony deserves a meaningful and beautiful vessel for its words. A handcrafted and heartfelt object Picture by Ellie Gillard A witness reads an emotional text, holding the booklet in a natural, floral setting. This booklet is far more than an accessory. It contains the entire ceremony: speeches , rituals , songs, translations , readings. It stands as a silent witness to every word shared. I use it throughout the ceremony — holding it in my hands or placing it on a lectern — and then offer it to the couple as a gift. Some couples use it as a guestbook; others leave it out for guests to leaf through during the evening or weekend celebrations. It becomes a lasting and meaningful memento. A true symbolic object of the wedding, it carries the magic well beyond the celebration itself. No plastic or technology In a world where everything passes through screens, I’ve chosen paper, craftsmanship, and authenticity. No tablets, no plastic binders. For me, these would break the spell. The ceremony booklet materializes presence, care, and human connection. It is a true accessory for non-religious weddings — designed to enhance the moment. A promise for every couple Every couple receives their own booklet. It’s always included in my services because it embodies the level of personalization I value so deeply . Every ceremony deserves an object crafted especially for it. A surprise on the big day As with the ceremony itself, the content of the booklet remains a surprise until the wedding day. It adds to the emotion, the magic, the wonder. The story is written for you — and revealed in front of you. When the colors of the invitation and the bouquet appear on the booklet cover, the harmony is complete. Each booklet tells a story Each cover is unique. Some echo the flowers in the bouquet, others the marine tones of a seaside wedding. You’ll find colorful bindings, botanical textures, recycled papers, minimalist or floral designs. Everything is created to reflect the couple’s world. Each piece becomes a wedding souvenir in its own right — far more than a simple ceremony booklet — beautiful and full of meaning. Create a Meaningful Ceremony Photo Ellie Gillard A unique keepsake from your ceremony This booklet is more than a prop or a script — it’s the soul of your ceremony, an object that will stay with you long after the wedding day. Because words deserve to be preserved. Because every love story deserves a keepsake that lasts. I often test the sound by greeting the first few guests to arrive — it lets me check the acoustics and break the ice at the same time. A close-up of a personalized booklet cover and interior. A one-of-a-kind keepsake for your wedding The ceremony booklet comes to life through textures, colors, and thoughtfully designed layout. Handmade in France, it is the result of careful craftsmanship. Each model tells a visual story: floral motifs, natural materials, graphic details inspired by calligraphy or wedding invitations. A few examples to inspire you Colorful bindings, illustrated pages, floral or modern styles — here are a few examples of booklets crafted over the years. Each image reflects a couple, an atmosphere, a singular emotion. For a unique moment, a cherished memory, and a creation like no other. Cahier de cérémonie végétal au papier artisanal. FAQ - Foire Aux Questions 01 What is the ideal length for wedding vows? The perfect length is about 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes when spoken aloud (approximately 150-250 words). However, if you feel nervous, consider keeping them shorter. On the other hand, if inspiration flows freely, feel free to write a longer text! Just make sure your vows aren’t too disproportionate in length compared to your partner’s. 02 Can I get help writing my vows? Of course! That’s exactly what my vow-writing workshops are designed for. 03 Do I need to memorize my vows? It’s not mandatory, and in fact, it’s quite rare. The most important thing is to say them with sincerity, whether you read them or not. 04 Who can officiate a secular ceremony? You can choose a loved one, such as a family member or a friend, or hire a professional officiant like me. My role is to design a smooth, emotional, and fully personalized ceremony that perfectly matches your expectations. 05 What qualities are required to create and officiate a symbolic ceremony? Because an elopement isn’t just a pretty setting — it’s a symbolic, meaningful moment that deserves to be lived fully.Hiring an officiant means choosing a custom-written ceremony, crafted with care, emotion, and simplicity. It means being surprised by the power of words, silences, and symbolic gestures that tell your story like no one else can.And if your ceremony is bilingual or trilingual… then every word will feel just right, in every language. 06 Can religious or spiritual traditions be included in a non-religious ceremony? Yes, a non-religious ceremony is entirely customizable and can include religious or spiritual traditions that hold special meaning for you. The goal is to create a moment that truly reflects you by blending symbolic, cultural, or personal elements while respecting your values and beliefs. For example, you could incorporate a blessing ritual, spiritual readings, or specific family traditions. Together, we’ll find the best way to include them harmoniously in the ceremony. 07 How do you work with couples to design the ceremony? I start with an initial conversation to get to know you, understand your expectations, and discuss your vision for the ceremony. Then, I ask questions orally and provide written questionnaires for you to complete as a couple and individually. This helps me understand your personalities, wishes, and story. Together, we develop the style, content, and rituals of the ceremony. I guide you every step of the way, from writing the text to coordinating the big day, to create a celebration that truly reflects you. 08 How far in advance should we contact you? Ideally, contact me 9 to 12 months before your wedding to ensure my availability on your chosen date. This timeline also allows us to prepare your ceremony with peace of mind. However, if your wedding is approaching quickly, I’m happy to adapt and accommodate your needs. It happened once that I prepared a ceremony in just four weeks – off-season and with a very responsive and proactive couple! 09 Do you offer a rehearsal before the wedding day? Yes, a rehearsal is possible if you wish. It can reassure everyone and ensure a smooth ceremony. However, in most cases, it is not necessary for everything to go perfectly. 10 What if we don’t know where to start when planning the ceremony? No worries! I’m here to guide you every step of the way. I’ll provide inspiring ideas, concrete examples, and a structured framework tailored to your preferences. Together, we’ll build a ceremony that truly reflects you, even if you don’t know where to begin. 11 Do you offer stress management advice before the wedding? Absolutely. I help you prepare your speech and anticipate every key moment so that you can approach your wedding with confidence. I also ensure the ceremony’s content remains a surprise to heighten the authenticity and emotional impact of the big day. 12 How long does a symbolic ceremony last? On average, a secular ceremony lasts around 45 minutes, but the duration depends on the content you choose to include. A bilingual ceremony usually lasts at least an hour, while a ceremony without speeches or rituals can be shorter, between 20 and 30 minutes. I once had the pleasure of celebrating a nearly two-hour ceremony in two languages, filled with touching contributions – a moment so cherished that the guests almost wished it would never end. 13 Where can you officiate? Do you travel across France or internationally? I travel throughout France and internationally, depending on your needs. For journeys over 250 km in France, I charge a travel fee of €150. We’ll discuss practical details together to plan your ceremony as smoothly as possible. 14 What happens if we change the wedding date or location? I’ll do my best to adapt to your new plans. If I’m unavailable, I’ll help you find a suitable solution. 15 Can we write our own vows? Of course! Writing your own vows is a deeply personal moment, and I can help you find the perfect words if needed. If you’re nervous about reading them aloud, I can suggest suitable alternatives. 16 Can you involve our loved ones in the ceremony (witnesses, friends, family)? Yes, your loved ones can play a central role in the ceremony, whether through readings, speeches, or symbolic interventions. I’ll connect with them, collaborate on their contributions, and guide them to ensure their involvement fits seamlessly into the ceremony. I also structure the ceremony around their contributions, following the thread of your story, to create a unique and fluid experience without unnecessary repetitions. 17 Can we choose the tone of the ceremony (humorous, solemn, poetic, romantic)? Absolutely! The ceremony should reflect your personality. Together, we’ll define the tone that suits you best. 18 What if we have guests who don’t speak French? I can design a bilingual or multilingual ceremony to include all your guests. Whether through translations, alternating between languages, or bilingual summaries and comments, I offer various solutions for a dynamic and engaging ceremony. I’m fluent in English and German, and I can officiate in Italian and Spanish. For other languages, I’ll find ways to incorporate them into a bilingual ceremony. The key is that we can communicate in English, French, or German to prepare your ceremony. 19 Do you have suggestions for rituals or readings to include in the ceremony? Yes, I can suggest rituals that align with your values and symbolize what you wish to convey, as well as texts that reflect your story and cultures. 20 What are your fees for officiating a ceremony? My fees depend on the location of your ceremony, the number of languages involved, and the level of customization desired. You can find the details of my packages under the "Services"(https://www.ceremonies-de-mariage.fr/en/tarifs) tab.
